Residents of Railton and Port Sorell will be the beneficiaries of a power supply upgrade from Aurora Energy to begin next month in Tasmania, Australia.
About 5000 customers in the areas of Railton, Sassafras, Moriarty, Squeaking Point, Harford, Port Sorell and Hawley will benefit from improved reliability of their power supply as a result of the work.



This upgrade forms part of a $5.4 million Targeted Reliability Improvement Program to improve power reliability around the State of Tasmania in the 2009-2010 financial year. The program is designed to address poor reliability in parts of Tasmania.



Stage One of the Railton-Port Sorell project will begin in September 2009 and take about four weeks to complete. Stage two will commence in January 2010 and be completed in April 2010.



Aurora Energy Group Manager of Business Improvement Rod Wright said work to be undertaken included line relocation, replacement of poles, installation of new conductors and electrical protection equipment, general maintenance of the feeder and vegetation clearance.



“Due to the scale of the project, there will be a large number of trucks and crews on the job and we will put in place traffic control measures during this time,’’ Wright said.
“We would ask motorists to take care during this supply upgrade and be patient in the event of delays.’’
Wright said that although Aurora crews would work on live lines to minimize disruptions, occasional interruptions would occur. He also advised that any customer affected by a planned interruption would receive an outage notification card in their mailbox at least four days prior to any interruption.
