AREVA Awarded Two Contracts With Major Indian Utilities

AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution Division was awarded two contracts by key Indian utilities, NTPC and POWERGRID.  Under the NTPC contract, totaling 23 million euros, AREVA will design, engineer, manufacture and supply Power Transformers Package, for the Indira Gandhi Thermal Power Project (3 x 500 MW), in Jhajjar (State of Haryana).  The project has been granted “Mega Power Project Status” by the Government of India. It is the largest single order awarded for Power Transformers in the country.

Under the 18 million euros contract signed with POWERGRID, AREVA will upgrade the Bihar Sub-transmission Systems by extending the existing substations and building additional 33kV bays.

AREVA, NTPC and POWERGRID officially exchanged the contracts during the “India-France Economic Conference” that took place in Delhi, in the presence of the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Ms. Anne Lauvergeon, CEO of  AREVA.

Karim Vissandjee, CFO of AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution said: “AREVA has always believed in a new India where energy is a driving force. Therefore, we are proud to be a key partner in the enhancement of the country’s Power Transmission and Distribution Networks.”
