Black & Veatch Selected for Saigon Hi-Tech Park Electric Substation and Transmission Project

Black & Veatch has been selected to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for a 110-kV substation and electric transmission line project for the Saigon Hi-Tech Park. This project will ensure reliable energy delivery for a major manufacturing plant being constructed in the Hi-Tech park.

The 110-kV substation will provide 22 kV of power feed to serve a computer chip manufacturing plant. In addition, Black & Veatch’s project work includes a total of 2.5 miles of overhead and underground transmission lines that will support the power delivery, with the underground line being one of the first of its kind installed in Vietnam. Project completion is scheduled in early 2008.

“This important project is an example of the ongoing energy development that is underway in Vietnam,” said John Gustke, Regional Director of Southeast Asia for Black & Veatch’s energy business. “We will utilize our company’s global energy and procurement resources to provide a reliable and cost-effective source of energy for the client.”

Gustke added that this is Black & Veatch’s first EPC energy contract in Vietnam, and the company plans to draw upon its global energy expertise to serve the growing power needs of the region. In addition to its energy presence in Vietnam, Black & Veatch also is involved in providing water infrastructure in the country.

The Saigon Hi-Tech Park is northeast of Ho Chi Minh City and covers 2,256 acres. It focuses on attracting companies involved in semi-conductor chips, information technology, telecommunications, automation, precision engineering, new materials, nano and biotech uses applicable to healthcare, drugs and the environment.
