CapX2020 Awards Engineering Contract on 345-kV Transmission Project to Sargent & Lundy

CapX2020 has selected Sargent & Lundy LLC to provide engineering and design services for the 345-kV Brookings County-Hampton Transmission Line Project. The project extends approximately 240 mi from the Brookings County Substation in eastern South Dakota to the Hampton substation southeast of Minneapolis, Minn. The project will improve reliability throughout southwest and west central Minnesota and the Twin Cities, as well as enable access to new generation, including renewable energy resources in the area.

Sargent & Lundy’s scope of work includes finalizing the project-specific design criteria, complete detailed design of the line, foundation design, and support for material procurement. The transmission line will be constructed using tubular steel poles with double-circuit capabilities.

Great River Energy, Maple Grove, Minn., is leading the permitting and development of the Brookings County-Hampton project. Sargent & Lundy will work closely with Great River Energy and the CapX2020 Project Management Office (PMO) to execute the work.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2012 and be completed in 2015. The construction schedule is dependent upon the certainty of cost allocation by the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator and completion of commercial arrangements by the CapX2020 utilities.
