CG Wins Key Order for Wind Offshore Connection
CG, part of the Avantha Group and global electrical solution provider, is part of the consortium of four companies that has won a turnkey contract from Amrumbank West GmbH (AWG) for a substation for its German wind farm project. Amrumbank West GmbH (AWG) is a 100% subsidiary of E.ON Climate & Renewables Central Europe GmbH.
Amrumbank West Wind farm is located 40 km offshore in the North Sea. The offshore substation will transform the voltage to 155 kV and transmit power of approximately 300 MW to the electricity grid, operated by Tennet TSO GmbH (Transmission System Operator), and connected to the HelWin 2 offshore HVDC platform. The wind farm counts 80 multi-megawatt windturbines and is located 40 km offshore in the North Sea, 30 km north of the island Helgoland.
Installation of the Offshore High Voltage Substation (OHVS) is scheduled for 2014, and will become operational in 2015.
CG will design, engineer, supply and integrate all critical high voltage power equipment to connect the 33-kV and 155-kV networks, including power transformers, high voltage and medium voltage switchgear as well as protection and automation equipment. CG has developed an innovative AC/AC connection link for offshore wind farms. This technology, already used in the Belwind wind farm North Sea project, has minimal weight and is designed for optimal maintenance.
“We thank E.ON for the trust placed in CG and are very proud to provide them with our proven and unique technology for wind offshore connection (HVAC). CG plans to augment its foray in the rapidly growing segment of offshore wind, with its competitive offering in renewable energy solutions and application,” said Laurent Demortier, CEO & MD, CG.
