Hydro One in Canada Awards AREVA a 19 Million Euros SVC Contract
AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution division has been awarded a 19 million euros contract by Hydro One Networks Inc., to Supply & Install a Static VAr Compensator (SVC) that will be the largest SVC installed in Ontario.
The installation will be strategically located within the existing 500-kV Porcupine Station in Timmins, Ontario, which is part of the main transmission network that connects the generation plants located in Northern Ontario to the population centers in the south of the province.
This new installation will improve the performance and stability of the network in this region. The project is due for completion on Nov. 1, 2010.
“Our recently acquired company Nokian Capacitors Ltd. has complemented AREVA’s offering with its state-of-the-art technology in Static VAr Compensator. This contract demonstrates AREVA’s will to meet the growing demand for electricity and secure energy supply resources in Canada,” comments Ruben Lazo, AREVA T&D's Americas regional vice president.
