Environmentally Friendly Electricity for 60,000 Households
Sweden’s Lillgrund offshore wind farm, constructed by Siemens, lies in the Öresund Sound between Malmö and Copenhagen and produces sufficient electricity to supply 60,000 Swedish households.
Siemens was responsible for supplying the turnkey grid connection for the wind farm, including construction of the offshore transformer station. The transformer station (shown here) bundles the electricity produced and a 120-MVA power transformer converts the voltage so that the electricity generated by the wind farm can be supplied to the Swedish national grid.
The Lillgrund project also saw Siemens install 48 wind turbines of model SWT-2.3-93, each with a capacity of 2.3 MW. Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall operates the wind farm with an installed total power of 110 MW.
