Poland’s Grid Operator Orders Power Transformers from ABB
ABB has won an order worth $27 million from the operator of Poland’s grid for power transformers to modernize and strengthen the country’s electricity network. They will be made at ABB's power transformer factory in Lodz, Poland, and will be installed in 2008 and 2009 at various substations. The compact transformers with very low noise levels will each be rated at 160 MVA and 220/160 kV . “ABB has more than a century of experience in manufacturing high-quality transformers and these will have a big impact on enhancing the high-voltage transmission grid in Poland,” said Bernhard Jucker, head of ABB’s Power Products division. The contract was awarded by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne SA (PSE SA), which owns and operates the country’s grid. In 2005, PSE placed a similar order with ABB for 11 power transformers.
