Northeast Utilities Awards Power Transformer Project to AREVA
AREVA's Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Division has recently signed a contract with Northeast Utilities (NU) to provide high-voltage power transformers to be installed in Connecticut and New Hampshire. Under the terms of the agreement, AREVA T&D will provide fourteen (14) 200 MVA - 345/115-kV single-phase autotransformers in support of three transmission system improvement projects in the region that will strengthen reliability and provide access to competitively priced power.
One of the NU projects, referred to as the Middletown-to-Norwalk Project, is a 69-mile overhead and underground transmission line project in Connecticut. It follows on the heels of NUs' new Bethel-to-Norwalk 345-kV electric transmission line, bringing an additional 600 MW of electricity into southwest Connecticut.
The units will be manufactured at AREVA T&D's high-voltage/extra-high-voltage transformer facility in Canoas, Brazil, and are scheduled for delivery to Northeast Utilities in 2007 and 2008.
