The Transmission Agency of Northern California (TANC) has selected Sargent & Lundy LLC as the engineer for its planned TANC Transmission Program (TTP). This program will enhance the reliability and power delivery capability of the Northern California transmission grid and provide increased access to local California-based renewable energy resources through a system of 230-kV and 500-kV transmission lines and substations. There has been limited new major transmission infrastructure built in northern California since TANC placed the California-Oregon Transmission Project (COTP) in service in 1993.

TTP consists of four TANC Project segments - North, Central, West, and East - and is expected to ultimately include several hundred miles of new 230-kV and 500-kV transmission lines, seven new substations, upgrades to over 90 mi of existing lines, and modifications to five existing substations. The range of the program covers much of the Sacramento Valley in north central California, from Ravendale to the San Francisco Bay Area. The targeted initial in-service date is 2014.
