Siemens Introduces 550KV Dead Tank and Controlled Switching Device
Siemens Power Transmission & Distribution, Inc. announced its
entry into the extra high voltage (EHV) dead tank circuit breaker and
controlled switching markets at the IEEE Power Engineering Society
T&D show in Dallas, TX. Siemens introduced the SPS2 550 kV SF6 dead
tank circuit breaker with a spring-spring operator and a controlled
switching device.
The Siemens SPS2 550 kV dead tank is
said to be the most compact design in the market with a long list of beneficial
features, meeting or exceeding both ANSI and IEC requirements. It is
the only unit in the market place with arc-assist interrupters
utilizing a spring-spring mechanism for 2 cycle operation. The units
are available with porcelain or composite bushings, customized control
schemes and optional pre-insertion resistors.
Low installation cost and minimal maintenance make this unit ideal given the current trend toward maintenance free equipment. The compact design reduces shipping cost, decreases foundation requirements and minimizes SF6 gas requirements. The bushing assembly process is designed to minimize field labor and effort and the interrupter assemblies are designed to roll out for quick inspection if required.
