Cable Fault Locator

The Ditch Witch organization announces the release of a new and improved system for locating faults in direct-buried, unshielded power and communications cables typically found at streetlight circuits and meter risers, and across driveways, sidewalks, and streets.

With the new Ditch Witch 980 fault system faults are located even those under snow or frozen ground with unprecedented ease and accuracy. Minimal training is required to master operation of the 980 fault system, and its simplicity is complemented by an affordable price tag.

The 980 fault system replaces and improves upon the AF2/FT14 fault-locating system that the company had marketed previously. Designed and manufactured entirely at the company's plant in Perry, OK, the components of the new 980 fault system are, however, fully compatible with the AF2/FT14 system.

The 980SFP fault probe features a rugged yet lightweight welded aluminum frame that folds for easy transport. With just two buttons and an easy-to-read display, the 980SFP is as easy to use as it is to carry. Its remote probe—standard equipment—enables the operator to follow a signal under sidewalks and around trees and other obstacles.

The 980T can transmit signals to both Ditch Witch line locators and Ditch Witch fault locators, so operators can pinpoint the line and then the fault, all with one system. And for simple fault locating, the 980FT fault-only transmitter provides an easy-to-use and affordable solution.

"The superior sensitivity of the 980 fault system helps contractors find the fault fast and with pinpoint accuracy," says John Bieberdorf, Ditch Witch organization senior product manager. "This is easily the simplest system on the market."
