Advanced Metering Infrastructure: Top 10 and Bottom 10 U.S. States

Sept. 22, 2016
While the utility-by-utility data for 2015 will not be finalized by EIA until next month, indications are that New York will still be the largest state in the bottom 10.

Recent data from the Energy Information Administration pegs installation levels for Advanced Metering Infrastructure in the U.S. at 58.5 million meters, or approximately 40% of all meter installations, with 88% of such AMI in place on the residential side.

While the utility-by-utility data for 2015 will not be finalized by EIA until next month, indications are that New York will still be the largest state in the bottom 10, as shown in the analysis below utilizing EIA’s 2014 data.  This is a good impetus for the improvement investments now being undertaken under the NY Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) program.
