Duck River to Deploy Volt/VAR Optimization Platform

Sept. 23, 2015
Project will allow the electric co-op and its members to realize the many benefits of DVI EDGE technology including energy efficiency, demand response, and voltage stabilization EDGE is expected to generate between 2 and 4 percent in energy savings Members to benefit from voltage conservation without change in usage behavior

Dominion Voltage, Inc. has announced full deployment of its Volt/VAR optimization platform with Duck River Electric Membership Corp., served by the Tennessee Valley Authority.

"We expect that this project will generate energy savings from 2 percent to 4 percent annually and help accelerate the deployment of AMI at Duck River," said Michael Watson, president and CEO-Duck River. "The deployment of this technology will allow us to take advantage of TVA's CVR incentives to meet energy efficiency goals and generating savings for our members without requiring a change in usage behavior. It's win-win for the co-op and for our members."

This project is an important component of Duck River's smart grid initiatives and will enable the utility to evaluate the benefits of optimizing their distribution system voltage for the purposes of energy efficiency, Volt/VAR optimization, and voltage stabilization.

The EDGE deployment began in June and is expected to be complete within two years.
