Encore Networks to Participate in DOE's Lemnos Interoperable Security Program Demo

Encore Networks has announced participation in the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DoE) Lemnos Interoperable Security Program Demonstration to be held at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Smart Grid Substation lab in Knoxville, Tennessee on Aug. 9-11. The ultimate goal of the Lemnos Project is to foster interoperability between multiple industry vendor products utilized within the utility control systems environments.

The Lemnos Interoperable Security Program is a multi-year funded project under the DoE’s Cyber Security for Energy Delivery Systems (CEDS) Research and Development Program. The concept is for vendors to develop control systems security products using an agreed-upon set of unified capabilities and operational requirements. This allows energy asset owners to better evaluate product functions and to purchase products from different vendors knowing they will be interoperable.

Encore will demonstrate both the BANDIT-2 and BANDIT-3 substation hardened IP+Legacy routers, which provide secure VPN solutions for wireless and terrestrial networks supporting both legacy SCADA devices and Internet Protocol (IP) routing standards. The BANDIT supports all variants of the SCADA protocol, both bit- and byte-oriented, with encryption of all traffic and complete remote management capabilities ensuring secure system data and SCADA network connections.
