Silver Spring Networks Rolls Out Smart Grid Initiative in Oklahoma
Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO), a unit of American Electric Power (AEP), will deploy Silver Spring Networks' smart grid solutions. The agreement follows the deployment of Silver Spring's field proven, Internet Protocol-based Smart Energy Platform at two of AEP's other operating companies, AEP Ohio and Indiana Michigan Power through AEP's gridSMART initiative.
PSO is an electric utility company serving more than 530,000 customers in eastern and southwestern Oklahoma. With headquarters in Tulsa, Oklahoma, PSO has 4,405 MW of generating capacity and provides electricity to 230 cities and towns across a service area encompassing 30,000 sq miles (77,700 sq km).
As part of the initial phase of PSO's project, Silver Spring will deliver its Smart Energy Platform, enabling the utility to upgrade its existing energy infrastructure. Silver Spring will provide unified network infrastructure, professional services and multiple smart grid applications, including advanced metering and automated power restoration equipment on its distribution lines.
