Outage Management Systems in Smart Grid Discussed in New Report

Today, with the increasing requirements on utilities to track and report outages accurately, outage management systems (OMS) is a critical analysis tool. Functions that OMS may support include accurate time stamping of outages and restoration by customer, crew tracking, predicting of outage causes, generating information of interest to customers, and creating call-back lists and reports for management and regulatory reasons. OMS integrates with other systems such as SCADA, AMI, GIS, CIS, DMS and MDM for effective outage management.

Forecasts say the global OMS market will grow at a moderate rate of 3.8% during the period 2011-2020. The sluggish growth of OMS market can be attributed to the decreasing demand for stand-alone OMS, which indicates the superiority of OMS integrated with other enterprise systems.

New research report Outage Management Systems in Smart Grid – Markets Analysis, Vendor Landscape and Forecasts to 2016 worked out by GlobalData draws up an elaborate picture of the global market for outage management systems with granular insights on key countries such as the United States, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Australia, and India. The study covers market drivers, restraints and recent trends as well as provides a walkthrough of the OMS technology, convergence of OMS and distribution management systems (DMS), and comparison of product from different vendors.
