SAIC Acquires T&D Engineering Capabilities from Patrick Energy Services

Science Applications International Corp. has acquired the transmission and distribution (T&D) engineering capabilities of Patrick Energy Services (PES), a provider of performance-based transmission and distribution power system solutions. The acquisition will enhance SAIC's energy and smart grid services portfolio, adding additional T&D engineering services to the company’s existing capabilities in a growing market.

“Efficiently integrating the hardware, software, and business processes to deliver the benefits and security of power systems requires unique capabilities,” said J.T. Grumski, senior vice president of SAIC Energy, Environment & Infrastructure. “This deal enhances SAIC’s capabilities in transmission and distribution engineering and furthers our efforts to implement efficient energy delivery systems that will enable economic growth into the 21st century.”

Headquartered outside of Chicago in Lisle, Ill., PES has expertise in providing power solutions to utilities, municipalities, generation developers and large energy consumers. PES provides services for the planning, design, engineering and construction of transmission, substation, distribution, smart grid, SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition), and protection and control systems. PES works in energy markets including power generation, transmission, substations, and distribution including renewable energy sources. The company is also currently working on smart grid projects for transmission infrastructure owners.

The acquisition will enable SAIC to better serve customers including investor owned utilities, public power providers, and transmission operators. As a result of the deal, approximately 200 employees will join the SAIC Energy, Environment & Infrastructure, LLC, subsidiary, led by J.T. Grumski.

“We have a lot of momentum right now,” said Christopher Dietzler, president of Patrick Energy Services. “PES is solving some of the most challenging problems on the electric grid and has record levels of backlog. Being part of SAIC will provide the financial resources and employee benefits to help us continue to grow and attract the best talent in the industry. Together we can offer fully integrated solutions to our clients and strengthen our position as a leading engineering and infrastructure services provider in the electric utility industry.”
