Tennessee Utility Commissions New SCADA System
Benton County Electric System has commissioned a new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Benton County Electric System, headquartered in Camden, Tennessee, serves approximately 10,380 customers and is a member of Tennessee Municipal Electric Power Association and Tennessee Valley Public Power Association.
The new system features Survalent's highly available, dual-redundant, open-architecture system based on Windows Server 2008. The system includes several of Survalent's open system applications, including: MultiSpeak 3.0, Event Data Recorder, IED Wizard, Control Panel, Remote Alarm Annunciation, SNMP Protocol, and SCADA Add-in for MS Excel and Access.
The system was endorsed through Survalent's industry partner Hometown Connections, a utility services subsidiary of the American Public Power Association (APPA).
"Benton County Electric System is a great example of the growing trend we are seeing among the mid-size and smaller public power utilities that are adding SCADA capabilities to their distribution systems," said Steve VanderMeer, Sr. Vice-President, Planning and Marketing, Hometown Connections.
