Vermont Electric Awards OSI a Smart Grid SCADA Contract
Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) has awarded Open Systems International Inc. (OSI) a contract to provide a new supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for the utility's Vermont service territory.
VEC's intent for this project is to improve overall system functionality and reliability, to enhance security and compliance to regulatory requirements, and to better integrate SCADA functionality with existing advanced meter infrastructure (AMI), outage management system (OMS), geographic information system (GIS) and integrated voice response system (IVRS) technology to build a cohesive integration platform for implementation of smart grid initiatives.
VEC's new SCADA system will be based on OSI's monarch (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) automation platform and is set to include the advanced functionality of OSI's next-generation .NET based Graphical User Interface, as well as OSI's Real-Time and Historical Trending; Communications Front-end Processor; Historical Information System and Data Archiving; Secure, Inter-control Center Communications Protocol; Calculation & Scripting Subsystem; Disturbance Data Collection and Virtual Remote Telemetry Unit software products, with MultiSpeak 3.0 interoperable monarch interfaces to VEC's existing AMI, OMS, GIS and IVRS systems.
