PPL Electric Utilities will implement MapFrame’s FieldSmart View, FieldSmart Route, and Field Flow Manager to fulfill its mobile mapping and field automation requirements. MapFrame will compress and extend PPL Electric Utilities’ ESRI GIS throughout the enterprise and work seamlessly with the Ventyx (formerly MDSI) mobile work force management application to provide PPL Electric Utilities field crews a “map-centric” view of their work orders.

"PPL Electric Utilities is committed to providing our mobile workforce with a fully-functional suite of work order management and mapping tools,” said Tina Rauch, Information Management Team Lead at PPL Electric Utilities. “MapFrame has the technology that PPL Electric Utilities wanted from their mobile map provider: highly efficient compression technology, the ability to maintain currency by extracting and downloading only incremental GIS changes and experience integrating with Ventyx Mobile Workforce Management solution. But, most importantly, we selected MapFrame as part of our Mobile solution because MapFrame was able to demonstrate a mapping tool that is fast, easy to use, and designed specifically for the mobile worker."

MapFrame’s FieldSmart View is the core map viewing application on which all FieldSmart applications are based. View will replace paper maps at PPL Electric Utilities and provide an easy-to-use interface for field workers to query, locate, navigate and redline their ESRI GIS data. Layered on top of View for a single, spatially-based tool will be FieldSmart Route. Route will provide PPL Electric Utilities field workers directions from point A to B by highlighting the route on the map, displaying turn-by-turn directions and delivering audio directions. In addition, the FieldSmart interface to Ventyx allows the day’s work orders to be plotted, routed, and viewed within the map. MapFrame’s powerful server component, Field Flow Manager, will handle data flow between PPL Electric Utilities’ office and field environments, driving an incremental update process to synchronize data and keep field maps and related data current.
