Siemens Power Transmission & Distribution has signed a contract with Otter Tail Power Company for the delivery, installation, and commissioning of the common information model (CIM)-compliant real-time network analysis package PSS/ODMS(TM). Siemens Power Technologies International (PTI) will deliver the advanced network applications package that includes full operations network modeling in the International Electrotechnical Commission CIM standard, as well as graphical topology building and automatic screen generation for network applications, topology analysis, online load flow, state estimator, and contingency analysis.

This award adds to the growing list of PSS/ODMS (Power System Simulator/Operational Database Management System) operations modeling and online analysis clients to whom Siemens PTI has provided these tools since it entered the market as a direct supplier in 2003. Siemens PTI has provided the network analysis algorithms to various energy management system (EMS) vendors for more than 20 years. In 2003, Siemens PTI added its CIM-based PSS/ODMS data-management package as a front-end to the online analysis algorithms and has been providing this advanced package both as a retrofit to existing EMS systems and as an original system solution.

According to Mike Edmonds, vice president and general manager of Siemens PTI, "Our CIM-based technology is in direct response to market needs where lack of applications scalability, modularity, and upgradeability has been a challenge to the EMS industry. Our clients can now take advantage of Siemens PTI's implementation of industry standards and face these issues with 'plug-and-play' solutions for on-line modeling and network analysis. PSS/ODMS also opens the system architecture for additional CIM-based software applications."
