Azerbaijan Installing New Substations and Power Systems
Azerbaijan’s state power utility, AzerEnerji, has contracted ABB for a $34-million order to supply turnkey substations and power systems that will ensure reliable power for the metal industry in Gyandja City in the northwest of the country.
ABB will deliver air- and gas-insulated substations and two units of gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), as well as breakers, instrument transformers and surge arresters, and a MicroSCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system that will monitor and control the substations.
The order was booked in June this year, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in late 2008. ABB will be responsible for installation and the commissioning, which is planned for April 2009.
Azerbaijan has enjoyed strong economic growth in recent years as a result of its significant oil and gas reserves. With this growth has come rising demand for electricity, in both residential and commercial sectors.
