Three New Substations in United Arab Emirates to Supply Al Reem Island

ADWEA group (Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority) has awarded ABB a $126 million order for three turnkey substations.

The three new 132/22-kV substations will supply power to Al Reem Island, a residential, commercial and business development off the northeastern coast of Abu Dhabi. This latest order follows a previous contract awarded to ABB for a 400/132/22 kV substation on Al Reem Island, which will supply power to the three new substations.

ABB’s substations will provide the infrastructure for a state-of-the-art power network on the island, and the company will leverage its strong product portfolio and system building competence to complete this prestigious project.

“There is high demand for reliable power in the fast-growing UAE,” said Peter Leupp, head of ABB's Power Systems division. “ABB has a long history of successful substation projects in this region, and we are delighted to be a part of the nation’s continued development and expansion plans.”

Work on the first phase of this project will be completed within the next 18 months.
