ABB Wins Offshore Wind Farm Order
German Utility E.ON Netz GmbH has awarded ABB (Zurich, Switzerland) an order worth more than US$400 million to supply the power equipment that will integrate a 400-MW offshore wind farm into the German grid.
ABB will connect the wind farm, located more than 100 km (62 miles)off the German coast in the North Sea, with its HVDC Light transmission technology. Scheduled to be operational in September 2009, the wind farm is expected to avoid CO
ABB is responsible for system engineering including design, supply and installation of the offshore converter, sea and land cable systems, and the onshore converter. Most of the transmission system will be laid underwater and underground, thus minimizing environmental impact.
