AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution division and Dutch consortium partner Keppel Verolme B.V. have secured a €62 million order for an Offshore High Voltage Substation project with Wetfeet Offshore Windenergy GmbH, a German wind energy project development company and AREVA T&D partner.

This turnkey project involves the supply and installation of a self-floating, self-installing 155/33 kV offshore HV substation to connect Wetfeet Offshore’s ‘Global Tech 1’ 400 MW offshore wind farm, located in the German Exclusive Economic Zone in the North Sea, to the offshore HVDC grid.

The substation platform will serve as a logistics service base during installation and operation of the offshore wind farm, and will be equipped with boat landings, a helicopter deck and accommodations for up to 37 people.

AREVA T&D’s German-based subsidiary, AREVA Energietechnik GmbH, will carry out operations in conjunction with Dutch shipyard company Keppel Verolme B.V., an expert in offshore constructions in the Oil & Gas industry.

“This contract with Wetfeet Offshore is the first AREVA Offshore Platform project,” said Michel Augonnet, AREVA T&D executive vice president, Systems.

Wetfeet Offshore Windenergy GmbH is a project corporation founded in 2008 to develop, construct and operate the wind farm Global Tech I in the German Exclusive Economic Zone in the North Sea. The six shareholders of Wetfeet Offshore - the public utility companies Stadtwerke München GmbH (24.9%) and HEAG Südhessische Energie AG (24.9%), the energy trading company EGL (24.1%), two experienced players in the wind business Windreich AG (8.05%), Norderland Projekt GmbH (8.05%) and one further private investment company (10%) - strongly believe in wind energy offshore and want to contribute to European renewable targets.
