AREVA Signs Three Major Contracts to Reinforce the Libyan Electricity Network
AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution division has signed three contracts totaling 300 million euros with GECOL, the Libyan public utility.
The first contract is for the turnkey delivery of ten high-voltage, gas-insulated substations (200 kV) to be located in the Tripoli, Misurata and Benghazi (Northern Libya) areas. These installations will help improve the transmission network and meet the domestic and industrial demands of these cities.
The second contract involves the turnkey delivery of two high-voltage, gas-insulated substations (400 kV), which will ensure the transmission between the new power plants and the Sebha and Tobruck regions. Most of the equipment will be manufactured in AREVA’s plant in Aix-Les-Bains.
Under the third contract, the company will supply 69 power transformers to reinforce the network.
These three contracts follow on the signing of a services joint-venture agreement, which marks the start of a long-term partnership between AREVA's Transmission & Distribution division and GECOL.
