Australian power utility Energex has completed A$14.5 million power upgrade in Brisbane's inner southern suburbs. The company has said that more than 15,000 local homes and businesses will benefit from the upgrade, which included linking the Tennyson, Moorooka and Annerley substations via a 33,000 V underground cable and other associated works.
Energex has said that the new work bolsters the power supply to suburbs including Moorooka, Yeronga, Tennyson, Dutton Park, Yeerongpilly, Annerley, Fairfield, Tarragindi and Greenslopes.
Kevin Ball, Energex's network program group manager, said that the new upgrades have greatly improved local power reliability and would help meet the growing demand for electricity in the area.
Ball said: "Brisbane's inner south has seen significant power consumption increases in the past few years and that growth is set to continue. These interconnecting upgrades will allow the three substations to work together to provide more power capacity to the area while providing a more robust supply.
"The new cables will also give Energex technicians more options to reroute and restore power faster should an unexpected interruption occur on the local network."
