Hyosung's Wind Power Generator Wins International Certification

Power & Industrial Systems PG has become the first Korean company to acquire international certification for its 2-MW-class wind power generation system from DEWI-OCC, a wind power certifier based in Germany. Hyosung received international validation for its 750-kW-class wind power generation system in April.

Currently, 2-MW-class systems account for half of the global large wind power generator market. Hyosung's system is expected to be highly sought after as a flagship product in the company's bid to advance into the global market.

DEWI-OCC is an authoritative international certifier that validates the safety and reliability of a wind power generation system by comprehensively assessing design and production, and demonstrating processes of the product. The Power & Industrial Systems PG has undergone strict tests on the stability and reliability of its wind power generation system at the demonstration sites for more than a year, according to regulations of the International Electrotechnical Commission.

The acquisition of the certification will advance the domestic development of wind power generation equipment and facilities, for which Korea has depended on imports thus far, and thereby generate import substitution effects. Moreover, the achievement has laid the foundation for Hyosung to accelerate its advance into the global wind power market, which is projected to eventually reach 50 trillion won a year.

The Power & Industrial Systems PG's wind power generation systems have been developed with homegrown technology for which the company pays no royalty to foreign companies. Because of the adoption of Hyosung's core parts and components, including generators and gearboxes (areas in which the company is highly competitive), the systems are expected to contribute to the development of the domestic wind power industry and help strengthen the national competitiveness of Korea.

“The core of competitiveness in the wind power industry is domestic development of technology,” said Cho Hyun-moon, head of Power & Industrial Systems PG. “We will continue to increase Korea's national competitiveness by spearheading domestic development of wind power technology as a leader in the wind power industry.” He added, “Hyosung will speed up the development of a 3MW-class system, and a large-scale 5MW-class system for marine wind power generation, and will thus emerge as a world-class wind power equipment maker by banking on diverse models and technologies catering to customers' needs.”
