Load-Control Pilot Begins at REMCs
Testing has begun at Decatur County REMC, Harrison REMC and Orange County REMC for a load-control pilot program. The assessment will help Hoosier Energy (Bloomington, Indiana, U.S.) and members determine the best equipment, technology and operating characteristics to use when a system-wide load-control program is rolled out.
The three cooperatives use switches to control water heaters during high energy use periods. In addition, control switches at Harrison REMC have the capability to operate air conditioning systems.
Consumers participating in the pilot program have received printed and online marketing materials to help them understand the benefits and use of load-control switches.
