Designing Energy Services for Commercial and Industrial Customers

Over the past year, technology advances and high energy prices have stimulated interest in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). Discussions are wide-ranging. Some focus globally: Australian and Canadian “smart metering”, new European Union requirements, the results of time-of-use pilots that arose in the wake of California’s deregulation debacle.

Albania: Additional Order for VA TECH T&D in Albania

VA TECH Transmission & Distribution (VA TECH T&D) has received an order from the Albanian electric supply company Korporata Elektroenergjetike Shqiptare (KESH) to supply conduction technology and communications systems, as well as the extension of additional 110-kV line feeders. The order amounts to around euro 3 million.

It is a follow-up order of a contract for the extension of seven substations amounting to approximately euro 12 million that was awarded to VA TECH T&D in 2002. Thus, the total order value of this project is euro 15 million.

The project will increase the transmission capacity and the fail-safety in seven important nodes in the KESH network, thereby making a decisive contribution to the improvement of the electric supply. The plant extensions had become necessary because of supply difficulties caused by antiquated plants, limited resources with regard to energy carriers as well as climatic conditions.

A particular challenge is presented by the integration of the new plant parts into the old. The rebuilding and extensions will take place while maintaining the current supply. The first of the seven plants has already been handed over to the customer on time.

The total order includes the construction, manufacture, delivery, assembly and putting into operation of 11 transformers of 110/20-kV with 40 and 25 MVA, 110-kV outdoor substations (25 feeder), 20-kV indoor substations (89 feeder) as well as protection, control systems, electric supply, and civil and erection works. The handing over of the last plant to the customer is planned for the second quarter of 2005.
