ALSTOM Makes Australian Wind Farm Connection
ALSTOM has connected one of Australia's largest wind farms to the grid. The Toora wind farm, which is 180 km (112 miles) southeast of Melbourne in the state of Victoria, will generate 21 MW, enough to power 6600 homes.
The wind farm comprises 12 towers, each 67-m (120-ft) high. ALSTOM was contracted to design, supply, install and commission the 22/66-kV substation, together with associated civil works.
The substation includes a transportable switchroom and SCADA controls, which allowed ALSTOM to complete the assembly and most of the testing at its base in Sydney, Australia, thus reducing costs for the client.
ALSTOM also produced a 20/25 MVA 22/66-kV transformer, a five-panel board of switchgear and the SF6 circuit breaker for the substation.
Danish company Vestas Wind Systems was responsible for the construction of the Toora wind farm, which is owned by Stanwell Corp.
