ALSTOM Undertakes One of the Largest Substation Projects in Australia
ALSTOM has won two contracts from SPI PowerNet totalling more than Euro 20 million for two turnkey substations to boost power supplies near the Australian city of Melbourne.
The 220-kV/66-kV and 500-kV/220-kV substations, scheduled for completion in April and December 2004 respectively, will supply electricity to Melbourne's outer southeastern area, one of Australia's fastest-growing residential, commercial and industrial regions.
In addition to ALSTOM's design and construction expertise, the two substations will feature a variety of ALSTOM systems and equipment. This includes 500- and 220-kV disconnectors; 500-, 220- and 66-kV circuit breakers; 500/220-kV transformers; MiCOM protection relays; and an ALSTOM e-terracontrol control system, enabling the remote control by SPI PowerNet at the Victorian Network Switching Centre.
