AREVA to Supply PACiS to Terna S.p.A
AREVA's T&D division has entered into an agreement with Terna S.p.A to supply substation automation systems (PACiS) that comply with the new International Electrotechnical Commission's IEC-61850 standard. Terna is Italy's main high-voltage transmission grid operator.
Within the next 26 months, AREVA T&D will develop, design, erect and certify a working prototype to meet the new IEC standard's and the company's specific requirements. The final system will be installed and activated within 48 months.
AREVA T&D will also provide 65 power connection bays and will replace Terna S.p.A.'s existing electrical copper connections with new fiber-optic versions. These new substation automation systems will enable the grid operator to integrate equipment with more flexibility and anticipate future needs.
