Austria: VA TECH T&D Wins Order for Graz Substation
Eisenbahn — Hochleistungsstrecken AG awarded VA TECH T&D a contract to supply and install the new Graz Substation of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). The substation will be designed and erected on the site of the previous facility built by former ELIN UNION AG in 1972.
The Graz Substation comprises a 110-kV outdoor switchyard, an air-insulated metal-clad 15-kV indoor switching system and auxiliary systems. Delivery also includes the integration of protection and control systems, as well as intersystem design and engineering tasks.
The substation represents one of the key elements of the railway power-supply network in the Graz area. Increasing power demand, as a result of line extensions and upgrading of existing tracks, called for a new installation and uprating of the substation. Project completion is scheduled for the summer of 2005.
Over the past few years, VA TECH T&D erected the Semmering Substation, which provides electricity to the Ritter von Ghega line section. Subsequently, VA TECH T&D supplied the Bruck-Fusch Substation, located in the Pinzgau region of the Austrian province of Salzburg.
