Florida DEP Purchases 12 GenCore Fuel Cell Systems
Plug Power Inc. announced the sale of 12 GenCore backup fuel cell systems to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). The 5-kW hydrogen-fueled GenCore fuel cell systems will be integrated with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) equipment to provide critical backup power to DEP offices throughout the state of Florida. As a result of this purchase, Plug Power will now be listed as a supplier of backup power for the state of Florida, enabling all state agencies to procure and deploy GenCore systems.
“The Florida hurricane season can create power challenges for our critical operations,” said DEP Deputy Secretary for Regulatory Programs and Energy Allan Bedwell. “These state-of-the-art fuel cell systems use existing, proven technologies to deliver reliable backup power during service interruptions while providing cost-effective environmental benefits.”
