GE Energy to Design and Rebuild Substation in U.K.
SP PowerSystems, part of the ScottishPower group (Glasgow, U.K.), awarded GE Energy (Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.) a contract for approximately US$16 million to rebuild its Capenhurst 132-kV air-insulated switchgear substation.
Under the scope of the project, GE Energy will design and rebuild the Capenhurst Substation, provide equipment protection, primary equipment, civil works and cabling. The project will begin this year and continue for four years, with 16 bays being replaced in phases of four bays per year.
The Capenhurst Substation is a critical grid supply point in the ScottishPower region, providing power to Chester and a major industrial area in Northwest England. GE Energy's substation projects team in the United Kingdom will execute this project.
