VA TECH Transmission & Distribution (VA TECH T&D), a supplier of high-voltage transmission and distribution systems, has won the Euro 25 million contract for a new GIS Project at the Kudankulam Power Plant in India.

The scope of the contract includes 18 Indoor Switchgear (GIS) bays. When commissioned in 2006, the 2000-MW power plant will improve the quality of life of the people in southern India by electrification of villages, as well as development of irrigation facilities, improvement of the drinking water supply and the development of industry.

The Kudankulam Project is part of a program to develop and increase the generation of electricity in India.

This new order for Kudankulam GIS confirms VA TECH T&D's position as a supplier to Indian energy supply companies demanding quality and reliability of equipment in view of continuity of energy supply according to the VA TECH's mission statement: “Sustainable Solutions for a Better Life.…

This is the second GIS plant VA TECH has supplied in India for NPCIL, having previously been a recipient of the GIS for the Tarapur Power Plant in 2001.
