InfraSource's MJE Completes Killingly Substation for Connecticut Light & Power
InfraSource Services Inc.'s M.J. Electric (MJE; Shoemakersville, Pennsylvania, U.S.; www.infrasourceinc.com) business unit recently completed work on a new 600-MW, 345-kV/115-kV “greenfield” substation for Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) in Killingly, Connecticut, U.S.
The Killingly construction project involved installation of two 345-kV extra-high-voltage circuit breakers, eight 115-kV circuit breakers, and all associated relaying and communications. Civil construction began in November 2005; electrical work commenced in May 2006. The substation was energized Dec. 8, 2006, with load added on Dec. 11, 2006. Testing was completed Feb. 25, 2007.
MJE crews tapped into one 345-kV and two existing 115-kV transmission lines; upgraded two 115-kV terminals at CL&P Tracy and Tunnel substations; and upgraded communications and relaying at CL&P's Tracy, Tunnel, Lake Road Generating and Fry Brook substations.
MJE is also relocating an existing 345-kV breaker at the Card Street Substation and installing a new 345-kV breaker and associated relaying in series with the relocated breaker.
