Italy/Spain: Siemens HIS Now Available for Voltage Levels up to 420 kV; First installations in Spain and Italy
Previously, the highly integrated switchgear (HIS) from Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution (PTD; Erlangen, Germany) covered the voltage range only from 72.5 to 145 kV, but now it is available for voltages up to 420 kV. This kind of switchgear, a combination of air and gas-insulated technology, is designed for outdoor installation and takes up less than half the space required for comparable air-insulated systems. The first two substations comprising this type are currently being installed in Spain and Italy. Siemens is supplying a total of 13 bays to one of Spain's leading supra-regional power suppliers, Red Eléctrica de Espana (REE). Three and five bays have been set up for the Italian generating plant operators Endesa and Edipower respectively.
