Sonelgaz Awards AREVA Turnkey Contract

AREVA's Transmission and Distribution (T&D) division has signed a contract with the main Algerian utility Sonelgaz to increase the capacity of its transmission grid. The 50 million euro turnkey contract is part of the Mediterranean grid project that will link the power grids of the Maghreb and European countries.

Under the terms of the contract, AREVA T&D will supply and install a 400-kV air-insulated substation and provide a telecommunications system, as well as protection and control equipment.

In 2003, the company significantly contributed to the first steps of the Mediterranean Ring project by supplying a 400-kV gas-insulated substation to interconnect Algeria's network with Morocco's high-voltage grid, known as Hassi Ameur.
