Designing Energy Services for Commercial and Industrial Customers

Over the past year, technology advances and high energy prices have stimulated interest in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). Discussions are wide-ranging. Some focus globally: Australian and Canadian “smart metering”, new European Union requirements, the results of time-of-use pilots that arose in the wake of California’s deregulation debacle.

Successful Commissioning of SCHAAN, ESCHEN and TRIESEN Substations in Liechtenstein

Within the “three-year schedule” to deliver the three substations by VA TECH Transmission & Distribution, now the third substation (Eschen) was successfully commissioned in autumn 2002. This means that now the electrical energy for the whole country of Liechtenstein is distributed through VA TECH T&D substations on the 110 kV voltage level.

Due to significant increase of energy consumption upgrading of the distribution network of “Nordost-schweizerischen Kraftwerke” (NOK) to the voltage level of 110 kV is under way to be finished by 2008.

In order to meet the new requirements modification and extension of SCHAAN, ESCHEN, TRIESEN substations of “Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke” (LKW) were necessary. The concept of LKW envisaged a 110 kV SF6 switchgear including control, automation and protection for each substation.

The scoe of supply included: gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) of the VA TECH T&D range; 2 × line feeder; 2 × transformer feeder; and a single busbar including bus-section disconnectors and earthing switches VA TECH SAT automation system is used for control and monitoring (AM1703 as bay units with touch panels and AK1703 as central control unit). The man-machine interface is the SAT250 SCADA.

Digital protection relays are used for the plant protection, which are connected to the central control unit AK1703 by a serial interface.
