Flint Energies (Warner Robins, Georgia) installed Georgia's first residential fuel cell, which will provide heat and electricity to its Service Center facility in Warner Robins. The 5-kW fuel cell, manufactured by Plug Power Inc. (Latham, New York) and purchased from GE Fuel Cell Systems LLC (Schenectady, New York), was installed and commissioned in less then four days in June.

Plug Power's fuel cell is a natural gas fueled unit capable of generating electricity and heat. The heat will be used in water heaters in Flint's service center. Plug Power trained the Flint personnel who will operate, monitor and test Flint's new system. The experience and data that will be generated will further design improvements and help bring fuel cells to market for future customers.

“Fuel cells will be an important part of Flint's electric service in the future,” said Joe Cade, Flint Energies president/CEO. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to begin to understand the applications of fuel cells firsthand, beginning with the installation of this system at our service center.”

Flint Energies, the state's only GE Fuel Cell Systems distributor, has built a network of 13 other Georgia electric cooperatives to market and distribute fuel cells in 100 central and south Georgia counties.

Plug Power has manufactured more than 300 integrated fuel cell systems, and installed and tested these systems in field applications, accumulating more than 300,000 hours of operational time.
