GarrettCom Inc., has introduced the Magnum 6KL Managed Edge Switch, which brings fiber port configurability for managed networking capabilities all the way to the edge of industrial networks, in even the most hostile environments. The 6KL switch is a a compact, environmentally sealed 10-port Ethernet switch with an ambient temperature range of -40ºC to 85 ºC.

The Magnum 6KL offers configurability for industrial networking applications in harsh environments including power utility substations. Featuring the modular architecture shared by the Magnum 6K family of managed switches, the 6KL base unit includes four 10/100Mb copper ports (regular or PoE), plus up to six additional ports, which can be combinations of Gigabit, 100Mb, and 10Mb fiber ports and copper ports. It is designed to handle stressful workloads that mix bursty data traffic and priority streaming traffic.

The 6KL switch is packaged in a hardened, convection-cooled sealed metal box, with optional conformal coating, and offers high EMI noise immunity. The 6KL switch can be ordered with power input choices that include: 24V DC for factory floor; 48V for tariffed carrier field facilities and for PoE-powered applications such as video surveillance; 125V or 250VDC for power substations; worldwide AC for transportation; and 12VDC for specialty vehicular applications. All DC power input choices are optionally available with dual-source for high availability.

The 6KL managed switch comes with GarrettCom’s robust MNS-6K managed network software that features support for industry standards, ease of use, Web and online-security features, VLANs support, IGMP snooping and IGMP-L2 for managed multicast, port security, plus a choice of redundancy options including RSTP-2004 and Dual-Homing.

The 6KL Edge Switch has all appropriate agency approvals and compliance certifications, including: UL listing for safety, IEC61850 and IEEE1613 standards for power substations, NEMA TS-2 and TEES for use in traffic control systems outdoors, and NEBS L3 and ETSI compliance for telecom. The 6KL is designed to meet EN 50155 and EN 50121 railway standards, including vibration and shock requirements for transportation environments and meets European CE and RoHS requirements.
