This adds a further 400 m2 to the already large site.

Megger has opened a major new test, development and manufacturing facility in Radeburg, near Dresden in Germany. This adds a further 400 m2 to the already large site.

The new facility, which is extensively equipped for the manufacture and acceptance of testing and diagnostic equipment for use on high and extra high voltage systems up to 600 kV, is already attracting the attention of customers in America, India and China as well as those in Europe. It will support and further accelerate Megger’s highly successful development programme for cable diagnostics and test equipment.

“The new facility represents a very significant investment for the Group,” said Dr Sacha Markalous, Megger Radeburg General Manager, “and we see it as an essential response to the growing needs of our customers for sophisticated HV cable test and diagnostics equipment.”

“Cable technology is moving very rapidly with, for example, long undersea HV and EHV cables links being used increasingly for transmission between regions and countries. Testing, diagnostics and condition assessment on these cables is often very challenging, and one of the key objectives for our new 600 kV facility is to develop and manufacture innovative and practical systems that will address these challenges effectively and efficiently.”

The opening of Megger’s new 600 kV test and development facility means that the company now has in-house capabilities for producing and evaluating cable test equipment for all applications from high-current LV systems to the most advanced EHV installations. It will also be possible for customers to visit the site to attend formal factory acceptance tests prior to the shipping of HV test equipment.

A further benefit is that the new facility is located adjacent to Megger’s existing plant in Radeburg, where the company’s engineers have extensive experience in the advanced technologies that will be required for the development and manufacture of the next generation of cable test equipment.
