Designing Energy Services for Commercial and Industrial Customers

Over the past year, technology advances and high energy prices have stimulated interest in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). Discussions are wide-ranging. Some focus globally: Australian and Canadian “smart metering”, new European Union requirements, the results of time-of-use pilots that arose in the wake of California’s deregulation debacle.

Beacon Power to Be Featured in Massachusetts Pavilion at Hannover Fair 2006

Beacon Power Corporation will be one of six companies featured in the Massachusetts Pavilion at the Hannover Fair 2006, one of the world's largest technology trade shows. The annual event runs from April 24-28 and is attended by more than 200,000 visitors. Beacon Power will be in Hall 13, Stand F60.

Beacon was approved by the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment as one of six Massachusetts-based technology companies to exhibit at the show. The costs for exhibiting are paid for by the Renewable Energy Trust of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC). The MTC is the state's development agency for renewable energy and the innovation economy, and the Renewable Energy Trust makes investments in and supports the renewable energy industry.

"Participating in the Hannover Fair is a tremendous opportunity for companies to develop new market opportunities for their clean energy technologies," said Renewable Energy Trust Director Warren Leon. "We are working with dynamic companies like Beacon to help create new jobs and economic opportunity in the growing clean energy cluster across Massachusetts."

At the Hannover Fair, Beacon will present the latest information on its flywheel energy storage systems for grid frequency regulation and other applications, and discuss its performance in scale-power demonstrations. Beacon currently has a scale-power Smart Energy Matrix demonstration system installed in California, and one soon to be installed in New York. The goal of these two demonstrations is to show that Beacon's flywheel-based energy storage systems can meet the requirements for providing frequency regulation services on the grid. Beacon believes that the same service could also be provided in Europe and elsewhere.

Energy is one of the primary themes of this year's Hannover Fair, with a focus on energy efficiency, the secure and competitive supply of energy, and new technology integration. The event is international in scope, with specific attention paid to European requirements. The Hannover Fair is one of the only global events that offers information covering the entire spectrum of energy generation, supply, conversion and distribution - from conventional to renewable forms.
