AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution Division (T&D) has won a large-scale contract in Russia, worth several tens of millions of euros, to modernize Moscow’s electricity network. The contract strengthens AREVA's position in a booming market: The Russian Government plans to invest 30 billion euros in its electricity sector over the next five years to secure electricity supply nationwide.

Under the contract, awarded by SOYUZ Engineering, Procurement and Construction company, AREVA T&D will supply electrical equipment to replace aging substations owned by FSK, Russia’s Federal Grid Company. AREVA T&D will provide 220 kV and 550 kV high-voltage gas-insulated switchgear bays in Zapadnaya and Chagino, near Moscow. The bays will strengthen the capital’s transmission grid and enable FSK to meet the city’s increasing demand in electricity. Compact in nature and renowned for their reliability, they represent a suitble solution for transmission and distribution projects in cities such as Moscow, where land prices have become among the highest in the world.

AREVA T&D’s gas-insulated switchgear bays are scheduled for delivery end of 2007.
