Integrated Cable Diagnostic System
BAUR and its U.S. supplier HV Diagnostics Inc. are suppling on-site cable diagnostic test equipment with 200 test instruments in the field.
The BAUR technology integrates dielectric dissipation factor measurement (provides global condition assessment of cables) with very low frequency (VLF) partial-discharge measurement (provides discrete location of pending cable faults) for on-site diagnostic measurements. Combining test techniques is key to accurate and successful cable condition assessment.
According to HV Diagnostics, partial-discharge measurements, while giving valuable information about certain singular defects within a cable, cannot detect water trees which are a major source of cable failures in extruded cable such as XLPE/PE. However, dissipation factor measurements are one of the most effective means of detecting water trees in extruded cables. BAUR also integrates traditional cable fault location equipment with the above cable diagnostic systems, providing a comprehensive cable test van setup with one integrated control system and a single user interface. The VLF high-voltage generator is capable of testing long sections of cable at high voltage while only requiring a standard 110V/220-V power-supply input.
