VCCT Project Progresses in Vancouver
Constellation Group LLC, working with Michels Canada, has successfully installed thermal grout in an 810-m (2,660-ft)-long horizontal directionally drilled bore for BC Hydro's Vancouver City Center Transmission (VCCT) project.
This uncased bore, approximately 1.1 m (3.6 ft) in diameter, carries seven 27.3-cm (10.75-inch) electrical conduits to provide downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with additional electrical service. The bore runs from downtown Vancouver, underneath False Creek (depth of 45 m [148 ft]) to the residential suburbs of Vancouver. Approximately 409 cubic meters (535 cubic yards) of specialized thermal grout were installed, displacing the drill mud. Grouting was conducted over four nonconsecutive days.
The primary participants are Golder Associates (engineering); Geotherm (thermal design); Michels Canada (driller and general contractor); Constellation Group LLC (grouting consultant); and Vancouver Ready Mix (grout supplier).
