Utilities and Customers Can Benefit from Outage Notifications

March 26, 2015
Solution generates automated notifications improving customer outage experience

Intergraph will help utilities improve customer service during electricity outages with the release of Intergraph Outage Notifications. The application provides utility customers with near-real-time information about outages that impact their home or business enabling utilities to improve customer communication and better meet customer expectations.

Intergraph Outage Notifications generates automated notifications to individual customers at the time the outage occurs, when updates to outage information such as projected restoration time or crew status are made and when power is restored. The system also features the ability to manage planned outages.

"The modular service oriented architecture of the Intergraph Outage Notifications application will enable us to easily integrate the solution with our customer communication system," said Gregory Kelly, manager, applications systems, Westar Energy, an early adopter of the solution. "Coupled together, we will be able to notify our customers via text or email when the power goes out, when updates are made or when the power is restored."

The system follows the customer's preference management for when they want to be notified and through what channels, so they receive only the messages that matter to them.  The solution also integrates with social media so utilities can reach their entire customer base without the customer having to subscribe.  Automating this workflow for large-scale outages enables the utility to focus on restoring power while the application automatically posts to social media based on changing conditions within the outage management system.
